My Journey to Better Health

Is what you eat FIT for you? Is it FIT for your children?

"Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food."

Hippocrates (460-370 B.C.)

I was an active child, an active adult who loved exercise and dance, and I used to believe I ate healthily. So, why a stroke? Why cancer? Why did my 7 year- old daughter develop Type I Diabetes and 4-year-old son, asthma?  All the questions led me to my food journey in 2012 after discovering and watching some of the food documentaries below.

I immediately cleaned out our refrigerator of all products that were GMO and contained high fructose corn syrup or any type of corn syrup.  We started shopping at local PFarmer's Markets when our budget allows, we enjoy the HEB Organics brand, and we try to eat 50% of our meals made up of raw vegetables and fruits. All advice and suggestions made in the following documentaries by doctors, nutritionist and actual scientist.

By June 2014, Ernest lost 100 pounds and I lost about 15 pounds, and we both quickly noticed the increase in energy, Ernest's skin problems went away, and we feel great all the time. We are a normal happy couple (well, I'm normal, lol) sharing our story with hopes to inform others who may be on a similar journey. Please know that we do not eat perfectly ALL the time. When you deprive yourselves, that can have a negative impact as well, so we do treat ourselves in moderation.

Overwhelmed by websites, webinars, books and videos, it comes down to the fact that we are all different and we each have to find out for ourselves what works and what does not. No one knows our body or our life the way we do. It's up to each of us to take responsibility for our bodies, especially for our children who look up to us as parents, and choose to live healthier and happier, starting today.

Be Healthy,  Be Happy!!

Key Suggestions

  • Know what you put into your body (ask your doctor or family for guidance)
  • Watch the documentaries above (on Netflix), Knowledge is Key, learn, act, and share (repeat)
  • Read your labels, mainly the ingredients (see examples below)
  • Drink a glass of water when you wake up and before meals (see My Tips page for benefits)
  • Eat a balanced meal that consists of a variety of vegetables, fruits, complex carbs and proteins. (More info coming soon)
  • According to Dr. Victor Zeines, D.D.S., M.S., Holistic Dentist and Nutritionist, (Documentary: Food Matters, 2008), most foods at your grocery stores travel 1500-2000 miles and are at least 5 days old or older providing you less nutrients than something grown locally.
  • Eat more of the right foods (veggies, proteins, complex carbs and fruits) and less of the wrong foods (processed and fried) Lists and recipes coming soon! :)

Which orange juice would you buy??

We have been slowly switching our products for our health and for our environment.
